Earl Translucent – The New Kid in Town

Meet Earl Translucent 110gsm

Earl (a paper range exclusive to Bambra) has been a bit of a favourite around here for years. Designers love it because it gives you the colour hit of a coated sheet, but with the feel of an uncoated stock. Best of both worlds.

And now we’ve added something new.

Earl Translucent 110gsm has joined the range – a beautiful translucent sheet that compliments the rest of the Earl family.

If you’re designing books, brochures, invitations or brand pieces, this gives you another (very useful) trick to play with.

So…why translucent paper?

Because layering in print just hits differently.

It’s not gimmicky. It’s subtle. And when it’s done well, it makes people slow down and actually interact with a piece.
Here are a few ways it works really nicely:

Layer text over imagery

Print your typography on the translucent sheet and sit it over a full-bleed image underneath.

Perfect for:

• Book title pages
• Chapter openers
• Property or architecture brochures
• Art and exhibition catalogues

It creates hierarchy without adding bulk.

Add colour overlays

Print a solid PMS or CMYK colour on the translucent sheet and layer it over photography.
You can soften an image, shift the mood, or bring in brand colour without feeling heavy-handed.

Print imagery directly onto it

Yes, you can print full CMYK onto Earl Translucent. The result is naturally softer than printing on opaque stock – which can look beautiful in editorial, fashion and artist publications.

If you need more strength or opacity, we can add a white ink underlay on our Indigo press to boost vibrancy and reduce show-through.

Play with white ink

White ink on translucent stock can be really effective. Floating type and subtle patterns – lots of room to experiment without going over the top.

Build it into books

At 110gsm, it has enough body to sit comfortably inside perfect bound and case bound books.
It works really well as section dividers and overlay title pages.

Part of the Earl system

The nice thing is, it’s not a standalone stock. It’s part of the Earl range.

So you can now combine:

• Earl White (our coated-performance, uncoated-feel hero)
• Earl in different colours (grey and black) and weights across the range
• Earl Translucent 110gsm

All within one big happy paper family – which makes designing invitation suites, brand books or multi-layered publications much easier.
