Bambra Basics: Digital Printing

There are countless elements in the work we produce, but only two constants. Print and paper. It’s what we’re all about.

Bambra is just as serious about the process as we are the product, which is why we want to tell you about the four types of printing we offer; offset, digital, letterpress and large format. This is digital printing.

When tradition meets technology, it’s nothing short of magic. This is especially true for our digital presses, which we work hard all hours of the day.

Digital differs from traditional printing because there are no plates involved, or at least static plates. The process works by using voltage to attract electrically charged ink or toner, that is applied to the substrate. This effectively means there is no set up, making it cheap, fast and open to variable data.

Bambra has two types of digital presses: the Indigos and the Xerox. We could wax lyrical about the nuts and bolts, but we know you don’t have all day. The core difference is that the Indigo uses ink and the Xerox uses toner. Therefore, the Xerox creates a glossy finish, whereas the Indigo can accommodate for an uncoated finish. This is only a microscopic scratch on the surface on these presses – they are truly remarkable and the opportunity for creativity is endless.

Perhaps you have heard sceptics say that the convenience of digital comes at the cost of print excellence. Maybe this is the case for other printers, but we don’t do things by half standards at Bambra; especially when it comes to our equipment. Our presses operate using the forefront of digital printing technology, producing premium print so you don’t have to choose between price and quality. You really can have it all.

The real unsung hero of digital printing, however, is variable data. There are studies a-plenty explaining the benefits of personalisation in marketing, but the long and the short of it is this: consumers like to see their names on things. Digital printing makes this all possible, plus more. You can personalise images, colours, or even copy. Combine this with the tangible value of print and your brand is operating on another level.
